What the remediation includes
1 — Audit (free, with or without the engagement)
A page-by-page review of your storefront's core flow — homepage, collection pages, product pages, cart, checkout entry, account and contact forms — tested the way a plaintiff's expert tests it: with the underlying code and a screen reader, not an automated badge. You receive a findings list where every item is mapped to the WCAG 2.1 success criterion it fails. The audit is free and the findings are yours either way.
2 — Code-level fixes
Work done in your actual theme (Shopify Liquid, BigCommerce Stencil, or custom templates), covering at minimum:
- Text alternatives — written alt text for meaningful images and product imagery; decorative images correctly silenced (WCAG 1.1.1)
- Forms — real labels or accessible names for every search, signup, login, quantity, and checkout field; errors announced (1.3.1, 3.3.1–3.3.2, 4.1.2)
- Structure — one H1 per page, logical heading order, landmarks, list semantics (1.3.1, 2.4.6)
- Keyboard access — menus, carousels, modals, cart drawers, and option selectors operable without a mouse; no traps; visible focus (2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.4.7)
- Accessible names — buttons, icon links, and iframes announce what they are (2.4.4, 4.1.2)
- Contrast and visual states — text and interactive states corrected in the stylesheet (1.4.3, 1.4.11)
- Media and motion — captions pathways, reduced-motion respect, no autoplaying traps (1.2.x, 2.2.2)
Fixes ship either directly in your theme via a standard collaborator/staff invite, or as a reviewed change set your developer applies — your choice.
3 — Retest and the remediation letter
After the fixes: a full retest of the audited flows, then a remediation summary letter — findings, fixes, and the WCAG 2.1 AA criterion each one satisfies, dated and signed. If you're in litigation, this is the document your attorney can put on the table in settlement discussions to show conformance work is real and underway. If you're not, it's your record that the work was done to the standard.
What this is not
- Not an overlay or widget subscription — here's why that distinction matters
- Not legal advice or legal representation; your attorney owns the case, I own the code
- Not a one-time badge — I offer an optional quarterly retest-and-letter refresh ($99/quarter) for sites that want standing documentation, but it's optional and the base engagement stands alone
Terms, plainly
Half the fee to begin, half on delivery, standard invoice (Stripe). A one-page agreement states the scope above, the timeline, and the deliverables before any money moves. If a full audit shows your site doesn't need this work, I'll say exactly that.
